I believe in you. That’s right – you. I believe you can sit down, pick up a pen, open a laptop, use whatever device suits you and write. We’re not talking about winning an award. We’re not talking about changing your life. We’re talking about the very small act that is writing. It’s so small, just you and the page. Don’t make it a mountain. Write. Now.
Don’t leave the words in your head. Don’t self-censor. Don’t wait for your writing to be pretty and perfect. Don’t say, “I’ll write when I have something good.” You could be waiting forever. Bad writing is writing. Ugly writing is writing. Bad and Ugly writing is awesome because it’s better than no writing at all. You can fix bad and ugly. You can change bad and ugly. So get at it. Write. Now.
Don’t let the blank page win. It’s easy to. It’s easy to stare at that blank page and worry about what you’re going to put on it. What if you do it wrong? What if nobody likes it? Guess what, you will do it wrong and yes someone will hate it. So what? Is that going to stop you? Are you going to let them stop you from writing? Stop thinking and start writing. Write. Now.
Did you do yesterday’s exercise? Don’t let time be your excuse. “I’d love to but…..” You can take five minutes, sit down with a pen and paper, sit down with your phone even and put something down.
It doesn’t have to be 400 pages. It doesn’t have to be eight hours a day. Don’t wait till you have time. Write. Now.
You can start writing now. The key is not to think about the four hundred page project. Think about the four words you can put on the page right now. Maybe you stop at four words, maybe you write five or six. But whether it’s four hundred or four, it’s writing. There is no quota that makes you a writer other than writing on a consistent basis.
Don’t wait till January 1st. Write. Now. Start today with the exercise below. There will be 10 days of exercises in total. They won’t ask you to write for hours. They won’t ask you to write for X number of pages. But they will get you writing.
What are you waiting for? Write. Now.
